Expat in the USA
Hi, I'm coming over to England next month, with my wife and two kids (7 & 9). Been living in the USA for the last 10yrs.. I'm going to need a car for the two weeks that i'll be there for. I was looking at hiring a Corsa with National, cos its the cheapest !

How much boot space is there ? Is there enough for a suitcase and large bag ? + some other odds and ends ?

It's a terrible choice for a family for four. Best value option for you with national will be the Skoda Octavia or similar class.

I've done a long trip with a 5 door Corsa Diesel and it wasn't amazing but it still wasn't bad. If it isn't a 5 door 1.3 diesel I wouldn't even consider it though.

This was with 4 men in the car. I'm sure you would cope with two adults and two kids in the back. I can get at least 3/4 smallish suitcases and bags in the boot of mine without obstructing the rear window.

I'd definitely recommend spending a little more though as it'll be much better should you need extra space.

thx, TBH the only time i'll need boot space is to and from the airport... What about an Astra ? I seem to remember those not being too tiny.

Skoda, I dunno, i'm of that era where driving a skoda was a no-go... :p lol yes i know.... i know.... however the subconscious mind counts for a lot, when it comes to enjoyment.

I had a Astra SE 1.6 for 2 weeks while a dent was getting repaired on the Focus from National, awful car really felt a different class to even a basic Focus.

What would they be if the Skoda is not there? Something like an Insignia?

Awful car if you own it and know that you have to live with it but as a hire car I've driven various Astras and for me they've been fine.

Skoda was the butt of many jokes when I was younger as well, but overlooking the best value cars made by VAG just because of the badge is almost as ridiculous as considering a supermini for a family of four.
