The Q9550 is a quality CPU. But that is a hell load of money to spend on a now old 775 socket. I would keep an eye out for the Q9450 that can appear for a decent price from time to time.
However the Q9550 has the ability to clock towards 4ghz so will be the best return or usage. See if you can pick up a decent second hand one. ? Or a Q9450.
If your really willing to pay £170 for a Q9550 , I think you might as well save a bit more , sell off what you currently have and grab a cheap i5 setup. ? If your going to spend then do it wisely.
