Hey

I recently got a new CPU and since its been installed my computer wont turn off.

I shut it down like normal, Start > Turn off computer > Turn off (Windows XP, SP2) then after about 5 seconds of being off it turns back on again.

I have reinstalled Windows XP recently and before i reinstalled it would do it aswell. I have checked in the BIOS for thing's that could turn the PC back on and everything is turned off.

When i installed the CPU i made sure the PSU connection to the motherboard wasn't loose and rechecked again today and it slots and clips in fine.

What do you think it could be? or do i have to turn it off at the wall from now on? :(

If i hold the power button in from the front it will just turn back on again.

What is firewire card?

And like i said Wake on LAN can't be enabled because in the BIOS it says its disabled.

I have reset my BIOS to default 2 times and also installed latest drivers.

If you press the power button just once it should shut
down your pc, dont keep your finger on it :)

pull out all the connections to the case (power switch, reset, LEDs etc) remove the mouse and keyboard, unplug hdd so you only have main components plugged in (remove wifi and sound cards for now, you won't be booting into windows with your hdd plugged in). Start the pc by shorting the power on switch with a screw driver and let it boot until you get the message can't find system disk. Then short the power again to turn it off. If it then restarts you know its to motherboard that is playing up. If not, add back things one at a time and see what causes the issue

have you checked your BIOS settings since changing CPU, try and reset your motherboard with the jumper CLRTC, remove the battery first.

or it could be a HDD fault, had this once before my disk died
