Hi

In 2 weeks i will upgrading to a core 2 duo 6400, asus p5n-e-sli mobo and 2gb of ocz ram.

At moment i am using a Gigabyte rocket pro cpu cooler and it keeps my amd 4000+ @3050ghz at 28 idle and 38-40 load (dfi temp reading might by wrong though :( its an rdx200). Will i need a better cooler or will the one i have do?

The only reason I'm asking is because i brought this at the beginning of 2005 when dual-cores weren't around and i don't know it will handle the core 2 duo, which i will be overclocking to at least 3ghz.

Thanks for the help

dual-cores don't get as hot, i think your rocket will do fine. Just keep an eye on the temps.

I reckon (as a complete guesstimate) that the average core idle temperature of an overclocked E6400 is something is the region of 40-45C and the load temperatures could be anything from 50-65C. Try your Rocket cooler. If it's OK, then fine, if not then get something else reasonable - Thermalright Ultra 120 fits that board and is a strong cooler.

I had a Rocket Pro on my P4 3Ghz Prescott. It kept temps down under 65C (load), so i guess it would have done a good job in a C2D as well..
