New CPU for rendering

So I'm currently looking into upgrading my dated PC (i5 2500k, HD 6830, 16GB DDR2) and I'm trying to figure out if I should go the AMD route or the Intel route.

Mainly I want my new machine to be faster at rendering and have better viewport performance. The main software I will be using is 3DSMax and Vray. I know Xeon CPUs are meant to be the best of this sort of stuff but its not in my budget.

Ideally I'd like a CPU for about £350 that will out perform my current i2500k.

I've heard the new Ryzen CPU's may be better due to having more cores?

Great! It looks like its the 1700 for sure then. I believe Vray has GPU rendering, I think they also use CUDA cores so I may be best getting an Nvidia card to go with the 1700? Maybe a 1060 as anything will outperform my old HD6850
