New CPU - Format required?

Hi everyone,

I assume you don't have to do this, but if you were to just upgrade the CPU itself, and nothing else, would this require a format, or can Windows cope?

Thanks.

You might need a newer bios (if the cpu is newer than the mobo), but windows works the same with any cpu. Changing mobo is a different story, as a new chipset requires new drivers.

I just like to start afresh whenever I install a new CPU or cpu/mobo combo, but that's mainly to maximise performance (you would really be suprised how much crap get's built up over a computer over 6 months). That way you can guaruntee a performance upgrade too
