So i need to replace my, just above stock cooler for my i7 2600 @ 3.4ghz, as on idle i reach 45 and load i reach near 80. It's been 4 years or so and i need to reapply some nice thermal paste.

Would this fit my current case? It's an Zalman Z9 with a nvidia 680 power edition, and i can show you a photo of my current case, if it would fit. I never installed my Heatsink so i dont fully understand how to know if something will mount or not.

If anyone has suggestions for a good cpu heatsink and thermal paste to sort my problem id be more than happy to look at your recommendations!

Many thanks.

I always tend to think with the cooler mounted the way you have is the fan on the cooler and the rear exhaust fan will fight each other - but you probably got the fan on the cpu pulling the across and and out the back.

Also do you have a front intake fan?

The main reason you matt be able get good temps with just a quick clean of the heatsink and applying some fresh TIM.

But! if you do fancy a new cooler then have a look at the Matterhorn below:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler £29.99
1 x Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) £8.99
Total : £48.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Yea, that might be the case.

I have a top and front one at the front bottom, but thats so far away, at the side i had one which broke, so i run open case side as of the past 2 weeks which has helped it a bit.

Airflow wise from what I can see you have:

Rear Fan exhausting and Top Fan exhausting, I can assume that the front fan is intake, is that all of them (bar the side fan).

My issue is you CPU cooler.

The way they normally run is Fan Intake to the CPU cooler (though they are normally the other way around).

From what I can see you have nothing moving air toward the CPU cooler. I would also change the cooler direction so the fan is pushing air at the cooler not pulling air through it.

Have you got a fan on the bottom of the case?
