Im planning on upgrading this week, I have recently upgraded my monitor to a 24" dell unit and my poor system seem sto be struggling with HD content. I only use my PC for work and general use, no gaming at all.

My current system is

AMD opti (single chip, 64bit) overclocked to 3gig
asrock 759 dual sata mobo

So ideally I want to switch over to a multi core system that doesnt cost the earth that will multi task and run 1080p content perfectly. If I can get the CPU and mobo for under £100 all the better. I dont really have a clue where to start, im so out of date with PC hardware I dont know whats good and bad these days.

Any help would be appriciated

sorry maybe I didnt put it clearly enough, i ditching my current rig and want a totally new mobo and CPU. Ideally Intel dual core. so it will be a 775 mobo. Just looking for a good intel CPU and a good mobo to go with it. Beudget of around £100 ish, can go up if its worth it. Heres what I was thinking along the lines of

a little over budget I know, is there a better cheaper option?

forgive me for sounding dense, but isnt that AMD chip prettyu much dead in the water now?, so surely buying a mobo for it would buying something that isnt upgradeable.

Its not a case of saving, I could spend plenty more but do i need to just for Photoshop, large excel docs, and watching the odd HD movie is what im trying to get at.

I figured by going the Intel route I could buy a cheapish CPU now, and a mobo that was cabale of taking a decent CPU if I wanted to return to the PC gaming scene further down the line. Or am I way off track with this train of thought?

yep sorry, my typo it's a 939, I knew I was going to have replace the memory as well as like you say it's just DDR.

I wasn't aware the 775 was being replaced so soon, as I said it's been a long old time since I upgraded.

I'm begining to get idea that is no worthwhile future proof (as much as it can be) upgrade. And that maybe I should treat myself to an iMac

LOL I forgot to mention I have a PCI-e graphics card already, only a cheepo one but its supposed to be good for 2d and HD films. Its a Radeon HD2400 XT

I think what I should have really asked for was best CPU and mobo for around £100-£150

and secondly would a system built around this combo be a good upgrade from my current system.
