Looks like my ageing Z77/3560k/DDR3 rig has finally died, I can't get it to post anymore.

I quickly priced up a couple of options to replace this, one Ryzen 1600x and the other Coffee Lake 8600k

The price is surprisingly close so what do the masses think? Let's say budget of £500 and minimum 16GB RAM.

I will be pairing with an RX480 GPU.

Primary use is gaming with a little bit of mining on the side.

if the above doesn't work and you want new gear

ryzen

intel i5 8400 which is still faster then ryzen 1600 for pure gaming
i5 8400 is prices at £180/90 now
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £549.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

i7 8700k- believe asus doing £45 cash back
My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £939.97 (includes shipping: £0.00)

I'd look into getting a ryzen 1800x they cost £265 if you shop around or if you want a 8600k which is price very close to the 1800x but the 1800x smashes the 8600k in raw performance.
