So still currently rocking a Socket 1156 i7 875k @ 4.00ghz with an MSI P55 GD80.

Honestly its been the most stable combo I've ever owned and I'm still on my release day install of Windows 7. However the lure of something new with decent bump in performance along with SATAIII and USB 3.0 is strong.

So I'm looking at a 4670k specifically, are there any decent real world gains to be from such a switch? Primary uses are gaming, photo editing and video encoding.

Rest of spec is which I'd plan to carry on using:

Asus 2gb GTX670
8gb Samsung Green RAM @ 2000mhz
3x 120gb SSD's
2x 320gb HDD's RAID 0
X-Fi Fatatlity
Dell U2412m 1920x1200 display
Corsair CX750m PSU
Loads of USB devices

Cheers in advance.

I went from a i5 760 @ 4.2Ghz to my 4670k that i have now and i was dissapointed. Yes there are increases in bencmarks but in gaming and day to day uses it's not worth the hassle and expense of changing. I also had a GTX670 and 8GB of Sammy greens at the time although i could only get them to 1866mhz on my board. You also have a i7 at the moment so you would also lose HT going to a 4670k.

Thanks for reply, I'm not a bencher and couldn't give a crap what gets what score in the latest round of tests, I just want to see realistic gains for everyday use in what I do.

Anything on the AMD platform worth looking at?

Totally forgot about HT and dunno why I thought the 4670k was i7, a few of the encoding platforms I use utilize it so I would want to keep it so thanks for the heads up, I've got a Corsair H50 cooling it atm the so I suppose I could upgrade that and see I can squeeze a bit more out of it, I bought it 2nd hand and the previous owner had 4.5ghz out of it.

My Sammy's are ace they'll go up to 2400mhz but 2000mhz suits the 4.00ghz overclock and keeps things nice and easy for a simpleton like me.

Could always keep the price down and go for a 2700k over new gen? My 2500k is solid at 4.5ghz, destroys what I throw at it :D

Certainly don't mind dipping into the 2nd hand market. Are of the 2***k ranges more overclockable than my current tech or cooler?

I only ask because the temps I'm at currently are on the very edge of what I'd be comfortable with (mid 70's under load).
