Hi all,

Recently upgraded my graphics card (old one was kaput) and got me thinking about upgradng the rest of the machne.

Currently have:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) @ 3GHz
MSI P7N SLI Platinum nForce 750i (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair DDR2 XMS2 DHX PC2-6400C4DHX TwinX - 4GB
OCZ10274 Vertex Plus R2 SATA II SSD - 2x 60GB RAID 0
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply
Asus HD 7770 GHz TOP 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

So i want to upgrade to somthng a lttle better and to go better wth my new graphcs card. Max budget of £200 and was thinkng the followng but would ask for some opinon:

AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4170 Black Edition 4.20Ghz
Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit
Asus M5A78L AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

Obviously if there is a better combo for the same or less money then please say, am intentng to run Windows 8 (run Vista at the moment)!

That'd be my take

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £89.99
1 x Asus P8Z77-V LX2 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £72.98
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £35.99
Total : £209.76 (includes shipping : £9.00).

I run that ram at 1600MHz, 1.545V.

Or a GA-Z77-D3H if you can find one for around £75. But NOT the Z77-DS3H, as it's voltage locked.

Then you can upgrade to 3570K later, or a 2500K, 2700K... The options are better in the long run.

If overclocking isn't your thing, something like this would be spot on.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3330 3.00GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £139.99
1 x MSI B75MA-P45 Intel B75 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £53.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £35.99
Total : £241.37 (includes shipping : £9.50).

A fair chunk more, but it's a lot Lot better than the 4100..

Though if you do want to upgrade and overclocking you can't do much better than Oli's (you don't mind if i call you that, do you?) Spec..

Sound advice as always :)

The Z77-D3H is good, also has lucid MVP software which will use the IGP to boost that 7770 of his. a lot of the entry level Z77s don't have LucidMVP :( We like the uk based 3 year warranty from GB and we also like that it has a dual BIOS which is a great safety feature as BIOS firmware updates are often a good idea.
