Hey guys I'm looking to get a Intel Core i5-3570 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) but I'm not sure what motherboard to get. I may also need a new PSU.

Currently have a CX430 PSU, i3 [email protected] and Radeon 6850.

My budget is about £300.

Thanks.

Do you have a CPU cooler and memory in that budget ?

If you are after only CPU and Motherboard for the £300 mark. I would go for the following :-

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £169.99

ASRock Z87 EXTREME4 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard ASRock Z87 EXTREME4 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £131.99

Thanks for the recommendations. I play primarily Natural Selection 2 and Starcraft 2 which are CPU hungry.

I doubt I will be overclocking. I have memory but I assumed the stock cooler would be enough if I'm not overclocking but if I do need one, what price am I looking at?

Also keep in mind that I may need a new PSU if you don't mind helping me out on that one since I doubt my CX430 could handle the new CPU. I'll probably be getting the upgrades in a couple of months so I can purchase the PSU and the cooler as well.

Thanks.

I would go for the 4670k at £169 will be best you can get for starcraft and if your not overclocking then I think the h87 chipset works out much cheaper something like a atx MSI H87-G43 Intel H87 at £80.

The CPU I mentioned is an OEM, it does not come with a stock cooler. Your PSU is fine and most of the CPU coolers in the £30-35 mark will do a good job cooling the CPU if you also decide to overclock and be a lot quieter than the stock intel coolers too.

Two CPU coolers I would go for below as an idea for you for the parts I mentioned above (Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) & ASRock Z87 EXTREME4 Intel Z87 Motherboard).

Prolimatech Panther CPU Cooler £32.99 inc VAT

Thermalright True Spirit 140 BW Cooler £34.99 inc VAT

This will give you a nice setup that you can overclock in the future and give you a nice base to update on.

If you decide you won't be overclocking the CPU at all you can save about £80 if you go for the parts below. The CPU is the same just not a K part (K parts allows overclocking) and is a retail CPU so comes with Intel's stock cooler, so no need for a cooler too.

Intel Core i5-4670 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £169.99 inc VAT

Gigabyte H87-HD3 Intel H87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £80.99 inc VAT

Alright thanks for the help guys. Was going to make my purchase next week but will be making my purchase in a couple of months now but I'll definitely be following your suggestions.

Thank you very much!

Hey guys, I apologise if this counts as necro but I would like to follow up my initial queries with an additional one based on recommended graphics cards.

I have an extra £150 to play with. I have or I am getting based on the recommendations in this thread, the following items:

- Intel Core i5-4670 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor
- Gigabyte H87-HD3 Intel H87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
- Radeon 6850 (my current card)
- 1080p 60hz monitor
- CX430 PSU

My querie is this. I am looking for a decent graphics card upgrade based on my price mentioned above but I am not totally open to the opinion that my 6850 is fine for current gen games.

GTX 660 is looking promising but I would appreciate any advice and help I can get.
