new cpu needed

hi i need some advise please my mate has tried to build a computer and somehow has blown the cpu intel have told me that they wont swap it so i now need a new cpu can someone tell me whats best to get for cheep
what he has so far:
asus maximus 3 extreme motherboard 1156
4gb corsair ram
1.5tb hard drive
case
750w antec psu
he has a graphis card but cant remember what type
dvd drive

so i just need cpu + fan

Well, if you want something cheap for that socket then surely an i3 would fit the bill?

what did you tell intel you did with it?

if you have told them you have overclocked it all i can say is what a wolly.

Windy, your mate needs to make sure he knows what he's doing before he builds or it could be a busy time for you trying to fix your mates mistakes.
Why won't Intel play ball?
