I remember when I stuck an AMD Athlon 64 in my machine replacing a Sempron, and it would boot up but I'd get random blue screens.

Does this mean you have to reinstall your operating system when fitting a new CPU? Like say, going from an E6300 to a Q6600 :D

Last time I looked into it you could change:

6 items

or network card + 3 items

you can find the info on microsoft site with litte effort

I've just built a new system and took the boot disk out of my old computer to check some stuff on the new one. Worked fine and thats going from AMD ->Intel and ATI -> Nvidia so they couldn't be much more different!

I'm on about CPU's though, not HDD's :D

Monkey_Boy1211 It would run, but it would not run optimal. Due to different chipset drivers etc. Oh, and your sig is 2 lines too big. 4 lines max. Read the Forum FAQ.

Yeah I know. I've installed windows on it but I needed to make a raid disc and check some other stuff so just connected the boot disc from my old PC. sorry bout the sig, was only meant to be 4 lines but it got wrapped.
