Hi folks

I currently have an opteron at 2.8 and im wondering if its worth upgrading to an X2 dual core processor. I dont have the money for a new motherboard, memory etc, so conroe is out of the question im afraid.

As i doubt any new socket 939 processors will be released, is worth buying one now while they are still about?I mainly use my pc to play games and surf the net.

If your happy with performance now then I'd say for your uses no don't bother, wait until you have to do an overhaul.
 
exact same situation here bit worried when i heard they are stopping 939 production

decided against it untill games come out that i like a lot and use the extra power

way things are going a new mobo and ddr2 ram look likely next time i buy a cpu even if i decide to stay with amd
 
cheers for the replies guys.Looking at a new rig some time in the new year and i dont think i can justify the cost of upgrading to X2.Think it would be a step sideways rather than forward.

@iViper, would love to upgrade to conroe but think id have to sell a kidney to fund it!! :)
