This isnt going anywhere near my rig, ive got my xfi control panel working in perfectly with the vista audio panel, not going to have this break it :p. I didn't notice 'poor' performance in bioshock anyway.

Mate Can I ask what drivers you're using for superlative Vista sound goodness?

Downloaded the latest drivers for vista x64 for my elite pro of the creative site.

Installed them

Downloaded the recently updated creative application/software disk

Installed that over the drivers

Installed the drives i downloaded from the creative website again to overwrite any old files.

Selected 24 bit 48khz output quality in the vista audio panel to remove all the clicks/hisses/etc. (same for audio inputs)

well problems have always been that I can get mic working in VOIP in games like BF2 and 2142. My sound has been working OK. Last week I put in another 2Gb of RAM (total 4Gb now)..and about the same time I read some post somewhere where poeple had been using the x-Fi drivers for their speakers/headphones output...and the motherboard drivers for the onboard sound to control the Mic only...utilizing the Mic port from the mobo. Good idea I thought...ill give it a try. Ever since that my sound is just a constant 'screeching'noise. I have tried re-installing the X-fi drivers...disabling the onboad sound and uninstalling the drivers...and I just can seem to get my X-fi working again. I reformated and installed Vista again last night. Now Im not entirely sure if this was caused by me having two sets or sound drivers in at the same time...but at the end of the day...if I control one thing with the X-fi...and disable everything else....and control the mic using on-board sound...and disable everything else...then I dont see the issue. I only managed to isntall Vista last night...i ill give it another go with both drivers tonight.
I think getting the mic to work in some applications through Vista/X-fi is a popluar issue. Im gona troll through the creative forums today also.

This is how I got my mic to work perfectly in every application. (including 2142)

Set the mic in you want to use in the xfi panel then this

They all read unavailable until you make that input a default, then it works :)

Did you disable the exclusive mode under the playback tab too?

Can I ask if anyone has a x-fi gamer with the logitech Z-5500 speakers as I cannot seem to get 5.1 working on this card in vista 64 as can only get 2.1 as says 5.1 not recognised, I can however get it working on my gigabyte on board sound with no problems at all.

Really irritating as it is the only thing I have been unable to resolve in my new rig.

As for mic I also had a problem with it until I set it to default + boosted it and it worked fine after that.

I tried that but still can get it to work constantly. One minute its OK....the other it just screeches.

Anyway...after a new Vista install...i have got this to work with my on-board sounnd for the mic...using the Vista drivers for the on-board sound only. Its all working well....so much so im even afraid to install the X-Fi sound/volume panle etc...just incase it screws up.
