ok guys im building a new rig for crimbo and am worried ill be wasting my money due to all this speculation with the new 600 vidies coming out and the new X79G2... what to believe and what not to believe... lets talk about it...

ok so this is my rig as it stands at the checkout... lemme know what you think.

intel I7 3960X (OC to approx 4.6GHz.. ish) and cooled with the corsair H100)

rampage IV extreme mobo

16gb corsair veng ram (CAS timings 99924... not the best i know but meh)

120GB Corsair force GT booty shakin' drive! with a 500GB seagate cuda

SLI EVGA 570 SC... (not sure about these)

all wrapped up in a corsair 600T stormtrooper.

Yay?! or ney!!!!!

See i dont wanna blow a wodge of cash on this lot and then 2 months down the line have new hardware which i will have to upgrade to.

Any opinions would be welcome.

Cheers

K :D

What's it going to be used for?

a sensible question hawk... i am a 3d artist and do a lot of rendering etc etc and was hoping this would suffice for 5 months or so.. i didnt want to build a workstation and not have the ability to play my beloved games smoothly...

as i said im still a little worried that although the CPU is heavily MT'ed blah blah... it wont be able to handle what i throw at

Well if your worried about having to upgrade a few months down the line I would think, like rob said, you should be grand for at least 2 years! That said the Ivybridge line of CPU's is expected sometime between Jan-March.

I just feel the 2011 socket CPU's dont give enough bang for buck over one of the new 2700K chips that OCuk are currently shifting. Easy reaching speeds of 5Ghz with them at half the price.

but do they?! all the benchmarks i have seen show the 3960 walking over the normal I7s in applications that can support multiple threads. im sure there will be no noticeable difference when it comes to games but thats not my worry.

the thing is even if you buy now or later something better will be out the next month the rate companys are pumping tech these days
