new cs:s money system using new pricing algorithm - quite amusing. I wonder how much the price of awp, colt, deagle, ak will increase in the coming months. Does anyone really buy any other guns (unless they were having a laugh) and what will the consequences be on match play (if it affects it at all)

PRICING ALGORITHM

Overview: Most of the weapons and equipment in Counter-Strike have had the same prices since the day the game was first released. These prices greatly affect the overall balance of the game. We at Valve know we're not alone in thinking that some of the prices in the game have never been exactly what they should be. (Uh, night-vision?) But rather than tweaking the values ourselves, we thought we'd rather let you decide. Coming soon in Counter-Strike: Source is a new system that sets the prices of what you can buy based on, well, what people are buying.

Starting on October 11th, the prices of weapons and equipment in Counter-Strike: Source will be updated each week based on the global market demand for each item. As more people purchase a certain weapon, the price for that weapon will rise and other weapons will become less expensive.

The pistol prices wont get changed valve have said. It'd be unfair for the first round, and because the USP and Glock are given out for free each round their prices would soar :p

I think it will be an interesting system and it'll force me at least to use some of the "less popular" guns more often.

Hmm, almost sounds like a joke to me personally, why do they need to change something that has been in place (for the most part) sinse Beta 1? Though I'm sure they mean the best in terms of balance for good old public, but those clans that are so tight now that know exactly what to buy when are going to have to totally re-learn their buying tactics and will moan their silly little arses off to the point of quitting CS.

I guess, or more likely, HOPE, they allow it to be switched on and off by server admins.

Agreed, gotta hope it's a server variable as to be honest it sounds rubbish.

Sometimes you just have to realise that the reason it's remained the same for so long is because it works, and then leave well alone.

I think its a great idea. As said above, will make it more dynamic. Personally I enjoy playing with a variety of weapons (gungame anybody?), so suits me perfectly.

M4/AK whores won't like it so much, but if they're that "1337" they'll make enough money.

And it should be a cvar.

Bring out the galils :D

oh hell yeah, down with the price of duelies so you can get some more ammo at the begging of the match!

i think this is going to be a really good addition and make the game a hell load more fun. and tbh if the "pros" cant use somthing different than the m4 or ak then there not very pro at all. going to be so much fun mac10ing people :)

well if the price of the AK goes up less people will buy therefore it will go back down again, i think weapons should just be priced according to their power, accuracy and rate of fire, and the more preferred guns like the ak and m4 which are the best all rounders in all 3 categories should be a lot higher priced than others

What happens with servers running GunGame I wonder. Could really screw up the prices if that kind of stat gets returned to Valve.

By the sound of it that could actually result in a reduction in the price of awps. a lot of servers have the awp either limited or banned, and its not that often I see anyone use one apart from clan wars, in relation to the rest of the weapons (on my fav servers at least).
I cant see them making it a cvar either, they didnt give us the option on the radar so this will proabably be the same.

edit: just checked the link in the op and their projected prices show the awp may indeed drop, and the deagle rise by 43% to $930

The deagle is rubbish though (read as: "I'm rubbish with the deagle"). The five seven is a man's pistol. Like the scout is a man's sniper rifle :D

True gungame would be messed up. Also, they should make it so servers which dont use awps dont mess with the prices.
