New Dash Update May 2nd?

Yeah obviously background downloading is most peoples big want but another high up wish of mine is a better designed marketplace (though I presume thats all done serverside and wouldnt require a download at our end anyway) cos at the minute its really clunky and hard to find the stuff you are looking for.

It might not be anything functional though like the update we had before just bug fixing.

The browsing will be local. Chances are the MS servers are just sending an XML doc to the Xbox 360, which the X360 then displays in a pretty format.

Deffo needs a major overhaul, its awful.

I hope it deals with the background downloading option that microsoft have said that they are looking into, my sneaking suspicion is that it will have something to do with E3 and the whole thing peter moore was talking about, making 360 owners part of the action

I wouldn't get your hopes up tbh. It could be anything and you all know how over hyped a small 'update' can get most of the times.

seen this on the xbox forums think it was yesterday,
although i am a bit sceptical at the moment because there has been no official word that xbox live will be down for 24 hours on may 2nd. Major nelson hasnt even posted anything on his site, and its only 2 days away

Isnt E3 being broadcast over the net? Would be fantastic if you could stream some sort of content thru ya 360 (wishful thinking) Hopefully the download thing is sorted and rest is probs bug fixes to do with hacks or something like last time, tbh its proberly all to stop some sort of hack i expect.

I wouldn't get too excited about background downloading, it seems rather unlikely, no one's going to be too happy if background downloading is allowed but has a performance impact on games. I imagine that's why it wasn't put in in the first place.

Dont have to play games whilst downloading maybe watch another trailer or goto friends list etc.. instead of just sat there.

I doubt u will be able to play games whilst downloading tho as some games like oblivion use the HDD as cache? So no doubt it would lead to curroption or summink

just think it should be better managed, maybe have a queue system - something you can activate when you can, so you can download - pause, play a game, then resume overnight or something and queue it all up

Part of this update might be to support a bigger harddrive....
(I read somewhere that microsoft is meant to be releasing a bigger harddrive soon..)

Well if they've fixed the bug that I told them about (had a lovely email from Major Nelson thanking me, so that's my claim to fame for the 360), that would be nice.

and that iiiiiiis? and ure dead on 10000 points!

It's not a major bug, but was pretty pleased with myself that I'd found something 'weird' that hadn't been picked up before.

Easy to do...

Find a friend who's playing a game that has secret achievements.

Make sure that the last achievement they have is a secret one (or in the least, one of their last 4 achievements).

Look in your friends list, pick a friend and view their profile.

You'll see that it will show all of their last 4 achievements for the current game they are playing.

The 'bug' however is that secret achievements are shown! If you look on the internet, or drill-down further into their profile, the secret achievements are shown with the grey question mark, but the main profile doesn't hide them! ;)

10000 points, yeah, was a goal for the bank holiday weekend :)

Major Nelson says there's no dashboard update included in the Xbox Live maintenance scheduled for 2am PT, despite the misleading phrases tossed around by customer service reps and recorded messages. And I was already buying into rumors about background downloading and a new blade devoted to E3. Is Microsoft really going to make us wait until Summer for the Spring update?

I'm fairly sure my xbox downloads in the background anyway.

I went to get the GRAW demo the other day, it got to about 5% and I got bored and started playing Oblivion, then the missus had a blast on Hexic etc..

Anyway, a few days later I went to finish the DL off and it was up to like 90%

no it doesnt, otherwise people wouldnt be asking for the update! it automatically goes to 5% (in personal experience) then when your away from the xbox it dims the screen, so therefore doesnt show the true actual download progress. this means when you come back to it, it jumps up to where you left off which was probally mugh higher than you expected, but to answer that, No it doesnt already download in the background. :p

The download progress isn't a reliable indicator tbh.

To start with it always jumps to 5% for some reason.. If you press cancel and then redownload it, it will jump to around 50% even though there is no way that 50% has been downloaded
