I see that dell are now selling the above beast, although i bought a 1530 this week, im pretty tempted to cut and run and grab a 1730 if i can haggle a decent discount.

Hits 2k with 2.4ghz, 4gb ram, 500gb hard drives, a true desktop replacement.

2k is steep. Think long and hard before you buy. That notebook will be out of date in a year. Hell, I bought my notebook less then 6 months ago, it's now out of date.

8800>7950GTX
New CPU's>my T72

Well, i doubt it, the 1710 came out 2 years ago with 7900gtx, and apart from a minor refresh last year with the 7950gtx, it has been unsurpassed.

It would last a couple of years without trouble id reckon.

If i can haggle it down to 1500 quid which i reckon is possible, ill give it a go :)

wow...

Wish I was that good at negotiating....

I would never have guessed you could get this much off....

I dont know if you can with the 1730, all i know you could with the 1710 when it came out :)

Ill let you know how far i get, which you can use (i get them to send a quote, so can give you the quote no).

Rubbish. Unless you live in Bender's closet, you have plenty of room for a desktop. As if you cannot find a space for a Shuttle on the floor, under the table.

Screen + keyboard will take up similar amounts of desk space/

Lol, Did you hear me correctly? My laptop sits on my dinner table, it gets moved when we have dinner, i have no room for a computer desk, thus, no room for a desktop.

Well, dell were back on the phone to me today, with a penryn 2.5, 4gb ram, dual 8800 400gb hard drive etc, ive got the price down to £1569, ive told him under 1500 and i buy, not bad since a lesser spec just a month ago was well over two grand (its still nearly 2 grand on the site pre discount).
