Hi guys, not sure whether it is the settings on the monitor or the PS3 so have posted in both sections.

My 3 week old dell 248wfp doesn't seem to want to play any ps3 games in 720/1080 they all seem very fuzzy and not at all detailed. Now when playing back hi def video's or looking at the ps3 menu it looks fine, highly detailed, great colours and none of this fuzzyness that i'm seeing. It's just not crisp in games!

Any ideas??

It's connected using a HDMI to DVI adapter if this helps.

Have you tried resetting the PS3's video connection?

Make sure the system is off but on standby I think.
Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.

See if that works.

Same on my BenQ, games look blurry etc

My mate had this problem where the ps3 was connected to a HD telly and then when we plugged it into a normal telly, the video wouldn't come up. Holding the power button till it beeped 3 times reset the video settings and it worked after that..worth a try maybe?

PC monitors typically have very poor upscalers so I'd make sure your PS3 is doing the upscaling rather than the monitor.

Same problem here, I posted in another thread that mine looked nice and sharp (had it updating and was looking around the menus when I'd just got it) which it does in menus and for movies. Sadly it looks awful in gta4 and the demos I've tried, very blurry with lots of aliasing & looks like my monitor's being forced down to a very low resolution even though my osd reports it's running at 1280 x 720.

I've been testing it out on a big old crt tv and it actually looks far superior on that in games but the menus are blurry.

Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get a new tv for the bedroom as the chances of me getting much play time on the hdtv downstairs are slim. :)

I'm guessing it's because the PS3 only upscales certain games (and you have to uncheck 720P and check 1080P to force it for them titles) so for the most part your monitor will be doing the upscaling, which if it has a bad scaler then that'll be why you're getting such a poor image.

On my PC monitor lower resolutions look crap, when I set a similar resolution (below native) on my HDTV it looks fairly decent, anything lower than native just looks terrible on the monitor.

how do i stop the monitor from doing this then? or is it again something i have to change in the PS3 menu?

It says the current resolution is 1280*720, all display settings are showing as 1080i and p available aswell as 720p

On an Xbox 360 it wouldn't be an issue as it upscales all games but the PS3 only does certain titles so that's why your monitor is doing the upscaling, you can uncheck 720P and tick 1080P but if the game doesn't support upscaling it will play in 480P.

GTA IV, Lair upscale off the top of my head.
