Finally got my 'man cave' finished and now need to furnish.

For a desk I had been thinking of a kitchen worktop and Ikea Alex drawer / storage units at either end.

However, I can't find real wood worktop that I would be happy (to go with the largely white decor) with and have reservations about laminate tops. It also will work out more expensive than the 'Commerce II' desk and drawers that I am now considering (picture in link below shows with silver legs but would chose white).

I was also hoping to get something to put my large PC into but looks like this will either have to go on the desk or below it.

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

I'll tell you what I did, however this might not suit you, you also need a bit of luck and patience.

I would search second hand on the bay for Ikea Galants (in white). I have a huge amount of stuff here, I'm sitting on 2 curved desks with the all the extensions and draws etc, it cost maybe 20% of new price and everything I sourced was 95%+ condition. I had sourced that many parts second hand it was like lego in the end, and I could build up however I wanted the room.

As said it's not for everyone, and it also takes planning as you ideally need to be sourcing stuff in advance, however second hand is way to go for saving money. You also have satisfaction you got the stuff cheap, but downside of putting in cars and moving.

That's freaky because I was about to recommend that when I saw the thread title.

I think the kitchen worktop ideas are the best, I've had two Ikea Galants for around 4 years and they are getting marked rather badly because of the thin layer which covers the chipboard underneath, certainly not worth spending over £150 on them.

Thanks for replies. After a lot of thinking and measuring, I'm going to go for Ikea Alex/Linmonn combination in white and see what it's like. The 600mm deep linmonn top is only £26.50, so not a great loss if it's too shallow or I'm not satisfied and will always be able to make use of the Alex drawers and storage unit elsewhere or with alternative worktop...
