new dog

i had 2 jack rusells one passed away 3 years ago and the other 4 months back aged 14.

No i feel i am ready for another dog thing is i have a 6 year old boy and a baby due in around 5 weeks so i am looking to get a dog in the early part of next year. I just need to work out the best breed for me. I adore JRT but fancy something different

so far i am thinking about

Labrador
mastif
German Shepard
rotwieler

anyone own any of them with young children.?
 
gsd are nice ,

all those breeds have good reputations with kids, dont base opinions on the old bad dog you read about in the newspapers
 
i know i just cant decide i'm not getting one until new baby is 6 mnths probably change my mind a 1000 times, I plan on having 2 dogs again eventually may even get another JRT one day

read all my post ! i will be getting another dog in Jan .

i grew up with dogs, and have had 2 jrt for the last 14 years and just don't feel whole without a canine companion

having revisited this thread I now have a 6 month old daughter and no dog as yet as we decided to wait. My local shelter has some lurcher pups looking for a home and am tempted to go and take a look, so what are lurchers like? If it helps I really enjoyed owning 2 jrt and like walking across the fields and exploring the little woodland thickets near me.
