So now that Nvidia have announced DP 1.4 on their next cards, how long before we see monitor announcements/news that will take advantage of this extra bandwidth? I know there was the glimmer of info about new panels on TFT Central a while back, but surely now would be the opportune time to shout about monitors that will finally break the 60Hz limit at 4K, and perhaps more importantly (given how achievable it is), more than 100Hz at 21:9.

Its sure to happen but probably only on premium gaming models from the likes of Asus, and you can expect to pay a hefty premium when they are.

I'd pay a 50-80% more for 120hz gsync version of the Philips BDM4350UC in a heartbeat!

Umm, DP 1.3 hasn't even hit any products yet years after the spec was released. DP 1.4, maybe 2020?

I think DP 1.3 might get skipped by a lot of manufacturers ... actual cards outputting it were limited at best... if team red also release cards with DP 1.4 then DP 1.3 will have been unlucky.

Either way - DP 1.4 screens wont be financially viable until the first stocks of the new NVidia cards and the new AMD stuff equally hits shelves. After that expect a little wait before companies start toeing the water.

Expect something insanely expensive from Acer and ASUS to be announced very soon but then take 6 months+ to actually come out (after that announcement).

Panel makers need there to be someone wanting higher refresh rate high res screens to put in their monitors... those manufacturers wont stand to make any money from such a move until a sizable number of customers exist. My guess would be sometime towards the end of the year or early next will be when we start seeing announcements... then time to start making them and shipping them. Hopefully just in time for the 1080 ti which will be my next card...

No way. No GPU had DP 1.3, so of course no monitor was going to be released. I've no idea why it wasn't adopted, but perhaps they were just waiting for 1.4. The panels in the TFT Central article I linked are clearly already being manufactured with higher bandwidth GPU's in mind, so they are definitely incoming.

There was a lot of talk (from AMD I believe) about HDR being supported in new (forth coming) monitors. The main reason for DP 1.4 seems to be support added for HDR, as otherwise it's largely the same as the previous standard.

Yes, DP 1.4 is the same bandwidth as DP 1.3. Just uses more compression.

The limitation and last thing to always get implemented is the transmission controller silicon for the displays. Not sure if manufacturers have technical issues, or the cost isn't feasible causing all of the delays.

Just look at HDMI. We had like a year and a half of "fake/rebranded 1.4" HDMI chips that only ran at 10 Gpbs being sold as HDMI 2.0. It was a big con. Only within the last year or so have we finally gotten 18 Gbps silicon.

Maybe the industry wanted the dust to settle with DP 1.4 before starting manufacture. I am really curious if NVIDIA will hire a producer to make an upgraded, high bandwidth version of G-Sync chipset for use at 120 Hz 4K.

expecting dell to announce a dual dp 1.4 work around 8k monitor, similar to how they made the 5k using dual dp 1.2

or can dp 1.4 support 8k via a single cable? 30hz?

So existing G-Sync module won't work at 4K 120Hz? I didn't know that.

Correct. G-Sync is just a DP 1.2 transmission controller. The silicon would need an upgrade. I'd expect that it will be a year or two before we see 120 Hz 4K displays with G-Sync.
