new dvd-rw drive problem

Just fitted a new DVD-RW drive, fitted the power molex and IDE cable it opens closes yet doesn't pick up any entry on the computer.

the IDE cable works fine as its also attached to the HD do i need any software for the drive to register with the computer? i've never had to install software with any other disc drives! :confused:

you need to use a sjumper and make it a master or slave

you got the jumpers set on the drive right and have u checked inside the bios
to see if its showing up?
