New e-bike recommendation please?

Hello all - jumping into thread to ask same question on E-Bike advice.

Currently have a fairly decent gravel bike (Nukeproof Digger), but it's not seen much use lately as basically combo of my fitness is failing (seems to have gone hugely downhill since turning 50 in January!) + live in generally hilly area (Tyne Valley for anyone local) so pretty much any ride even form home involves lot's of uphill slogs and the blasts back down but wit not much flat in-between, unless I purely stick near the river.

So.... our work Bike to Work scheme is going live again tomorrow for 6 weeks, but the caveat is only £1,500 limit which is low for E-Bike, and has to be Halfords Cycle2Work scheme for which they obviously push Halfords + Tredz - but seem to be able to use for various online independents / etc, but unfortunately not Decathlon who seems to have decent budget range!

Therefor asking the OKUK collective for ideas as not coming up with a huge amount of choice for EPAC legal options.

Riding would be road + trails + gravel paths mainly - not really thinking of any major MTB type stuff (currently).

  • Don't fancy pure road bike as too restrictive.
  • E Gravel bikes all seem far too out of budget
  • Leaving only really hybrid bikes or cheaper MTB

Found couple of options so far

Cyrusher Flex £1,389 - Seems to get decent writeups in general / powerful (albeit hub motor) & big battery. Know not idea on roads, but power should help smooth things out. and would be decent on tracks / grass / etc? Heavy and concerned how to carry around as too much for my 20kg limit towbar carrier even with battery removed - maybe front wheel off and in boot?

Boardman MTX-E 8.8 £1,440 - on sale currently if they'll honour sale price on C2W scheme. More road based than above. Lower power but mid motor so guessing putting that through the gears should help. Smaller battery range, but lighter. UK brand / shp if warranty issues.

That's the 2 I've come up with so far - any other ideas or comments appreciated? Thanks!

Sorry bumping my own thread but any thoughts?

Been looking at info today and think I'm swaying towards the Boardman as more practical and better (hopefully) aftercare for parts as at least it's a UK store - even if Halfords aren't the best!

Just conscious it's on sale and may go as maybe end of line stock

I think the boardman will be fine for bridleways, canals, road and gravel paths and some easy/blue trails i would treat it more as a gravel bike type cycling that a true MTB it has better reviews on tredz website than halfords

If be ordering the Boardman before it's too late. The only caveat would be if you plan on derestricting or going throttle only, as then a rear hub motor like the Cyrusher would be better.

Mid motor with a torque sensor feels much more natural when pedalling, will be much better when pedalling up hill, and makes removing the rear tyre much easier. I find it much better than a rear hub motor for any off road stuff, especially climbing.

I got a Cube reaction hybrid a couple of months ago. It's not too dissimilar specs to the boardman and I absolutely love it. I mainly use it to commute but also do some off road on it and I find it much more enjoyable than a normal MTB.

Sorry, hadn't replied to this to update.

Yes - thought too much of a bargain to miss with the spec / etc on sale so jumped on it - arrived this afternoon.

Just took it out for 10 mins to check all working ok and seems nice, albeit it's heavy (not had ebike before so guess most are the same!). Will give it a proper go over weekend, assuming weather is kind!
