I'm not keen on the seperate headlights or the huge indicators on the side mirrors. Other than that it looks neat.
What kind of performance figures are they getting?

What do you think?

Hmm, still unsure. The current C Class is my favourite.

The E500 is a 5.5 V8 pulling in around 390 bhp which in my eyes is pretty pathetic but then it's a "waft" car. It's not designed for A / B road blats. Remember, this is almost a 2 tonne car.

By comparion, the 5 series 550i (4.8) is slightly more expensive, slightly less powerful but is less heavy thereby making them almost exactly the same performance wise. If you wanted fun, the 5er is the car to have. If you want to cruise the motorways, I'd be inclined to take the E.

In other news, the E is wider and marginally longer but the 5 has a longer wheelbase.

its ok, I seat inside one and was not that impressed. I would still take a 5 series over the new E-Class.

My misses parents are buying one.

It does 0-60 in less than 5.5 seconds....what would be considered acceptable?

I like the look of it, I prefer the coupe even if it is based on the C class underneath.

i've only seen it in the brochure, and i'm not overly impressed
i'll have to wait until i see it in the flesh though.

i'd rather have the new 5..

The new E63 looks awesome, although it's estimated to cost a fairly ridiculous £85k. Oh, and ceramic disks are a £7k option.

Love the C class, the E just looks a bit odd on the front.Im glad Mercs have gotten back to what they are good at, big slabs of vehicles, not this round light soft wussey nonsense:p

Oh dont get me wrong, the performance is there, but they should be extracting a lot more power from an engine like that.

Your average Mercedes buyer is not concerned about peak power. It's more about the driveability of the engine and the torque spread.

Why? 390bhp is, as you said more than the 550i, and more than any 50-60ish prospective purchaser will ever need or want for this sort of car. For those who want lunacy the E63 is the car of choice.

Remember it's designed to sit on the autobahn ticking over at 100mph.

I went to the docklands "motorshow" at the weekend and sat i nthe new E coupe. It's very similar to the old CLK and pretty nice. Also sat in the C63 which was nice but the dash is a bit poor. And if you're a little on the wide side you won't fit the bucket seats! They are a tight fit!

Why peak an engine that's never going to use it? Better to rev to 5000rpm, have volumes of torque and live for 20 years. More befitting the car don't ya fink?

390bhp is absolutely fine for a none AMG Merc, if it had 400 or more it would really be moving into the 'super-saloon' category in my opinion.

I quite like the look of it anyway, certainly an improvement over the old car.

Like other have said, it's a wafty model, that 5.5l engine will deliver effortless grunt at low revs with zero fuss. If you want aggressive higher revving action then the E63 is for you. The same engine certainly makes my boss's SL500 go well. I'm not sold on the looks of the new E, the tail lights look a bit, erm, Korean, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
