New Epson Printer Install (Need Help)

Ok guys, so I got myself a new Epson SX215 all in one printer today and I've tried all I can to get the thing working but to no avail.
Installed the snow leopard drivers from apple, the corresponding drivers from Epson and no matter what I try my Mac just wont see the printer at all in System Preferences/Print Settings.

Any help would be amazing, if only to stop me putting a hammer through it!

You should probably know also that in my erratic frustrations to get the damn thing working I have installed both the above drivers plus gutenberg drivers and the ones that were on the disc,

and have not a scooby how to find, delete and start again, should that be required.

Help me obi-wan you're my only hope!

This is very strange. I plugged this same printer into my Mac the other day, I got a Software Update pop-up, downloaded the drivers and it was working straight away. The supplied CD never left the leaflet.

Say What!!!
Tried the old just plug it in, its a Mac, it'll just work tactic but nothing.
To say I'm frustrated would be a gross understatement. In the 16 months I've been using Macs this is the first time things haven't 'just worked', so of course my world is near to ending.

It's very odd that it would be so inconsistent. I was shocked at how easy it was actually.

I know my posting isn't helping.

Did you try the obvious things like running software update or changing the USB port?

Yep, tried those.
Suppose a call to Epson is on the agenda.
Tried it in my late 09 MBP and that didn't see it either.

Problem solved.
This is kinda embarrassing.
Turns out my printer cable which I've had a loooooong time is usb 1.0 and therefore not fast enough to communicate the info effectively to my Mac.
Cue usb 2.0 et voila, instant success.

Taxi!!!!

To be fair, a USB 1.0 vs USB 2.0 cable fault is going to be among the harder faults to diagnose... It's hardly obvious.
