Why oh Why cant we havea dual socket board that doesnt require Xeons!!!!
Because they aren't Xeons if they are i7s

The difference between an i7 and a Xeon chip (E5-1xxx) is better wafer + ECC + server tweaks (Virtulisation shizz).
For the E5-2xxx and E5-4xxx chips there are 2 and 4 QPI links respectively (plus E5-1xxx tweaks) allowing them to be in boards with other CPUs!
Unfortuantly, it's the way it works.
I'd love to shove two 990Xs into my Mac Pro for cheap but I'll have to settle for two X5690s please Santa
