After a bit of a disaster with my AIO cooler I've bailed on pumps altogether. Risk definitely isn't worth it.

This I need new fans. And, being the nerd I am I'd like Rgb.

My mobo is an ancient lga 1150 (and cpu is 4770k) with no ARGB headers obviously.
What am I limited to? I know you get controllers?

Also recommend fans? Probably noise over air flow. As this is no beastly machine.

I actually quite like the 'tunnel' look on fans.
I'll grab a pic to demonstrate.

Also. If no headers am I completely cut off from software control from machine itself? Or can it talk to the 'controller'

Do I have to (should I) stick to one brand?

Sticking to one brand is 'usually' best, and in that regard Corsair probably offers the most comprehensive options in terms of both relatively decent fans, as well as decent control kit. The software is not bad, and you can do a lot with it if you have the time to put in... but there are lots of user-made profiles that you can download, too.
Corsair iCUE will also control Corsair's own peripherals, and possibly some other brands.

In terms of mixing brands, AquaComputer is the far superior option. You program their kit through an internal USB header, but once that's done most modules will then run with nothing more than a power connection, so completely independent. Their kit runs their own RGB stuff (RGBpx), but also has little adapters that will accept any standard 3-pin RGB kit too. Their fan control and system monitoring suite (Aquasuite) is absolutely stunning and very comprehensive, for basic or advanced users. Only downside is that it won't (yet) control RGB on peripherals or RAM.

There is lots of RGB / ARGB lighting available on internet sites like rivers & bays. With your old tech it might be easier to just buy an adressable ARGB / RGB lighting kit that comes with everything you need including controller. Just Google " argb rgb low voltagge lighting kits" and maybe watch a couple videos about them. These kits are not dedicated computer kits. just basic low voltage ARGB / RGB lighting systems for less than 20 quid all in that allow you to adjust colors, plus rate, patterns, etc.

That would be the best bet tbh

This is exactly what I did for a mates older computer. Think the brand was EZDIY-FAB. Strange name but they work pretty well and the aRGB is quite impressive.

They work with a small remote for the fan hub/controller; the fans had 3 speeds with the lowest being pretty much silent though still shifting a comparatively decent amount of air. I think they also do those 'tunnel' fans mentioned.
