Just built my new Phenom II pc last night and it takes a good 60 seconds to boot windows 7. Before on my dual core e6600 it take around 35 seconds.

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
Asus M4A79XTD Evo (Socket AM3)

Could it be because I didn't do a fresh windows install when I built the pc?

if you just pluged your old HDD with you old windows install into your new PC, i woudl suspect that as the most likely candidate

So I should go for a fresh install then? Damn, I have about 100gb of steam games installed. lol.

If I am going for a fresh install I might just buy an ssd drive and keep my current drive as it is.. could I still play the steam games off this drive though?

Personally I would do a fresh install, also check what programs that start up, I check with msconfig.

Yea, I thought I'd have to do a fresh install. :(

Now I'm tempted to just buy an ssd drive and install windows 7 on that and use my samsung f1 for games.

CPU speed and RAM have almost nothing to do with your PC bootup time... the culprit will be your HD, and also check what's running in the startup list.

Seriously though... you are going to spend crazy money on an SSD just for an extra 25 seconds bootup time? Put your computer into sleep and you won't have to worry about that.

Just copy your Steam folder to another drive/partition.

Once new build on, double click steam, client installs. No problems. :)
My Steam install is the same one Ive used for 2 rebuilds.

And yes, booting from old install can slow boot times.
