Just a heads up to owners of these cameras - Nikon have released a firmware upgrade which claims to improve AF and LiveView performance.

Thanks. I wish they would show pictures of before and after with the D800 LCD.
Both my LCD's had a slight green tinge when I first got them, weirdly they seem to be perfect now.

^^^ Are you sure you actually had a colour cast? My understanding was Nikon simply changed the WB slightly to be more accurate which resulted in a cooler WB and slightly more green tint, which looked wrong relative to older cameras which had a warmer cast but was actually more accurate.

Some of the affected cameras were so green it was like living in The Matrix. Definitely not just a deliberate recalibration of WB.

Unfortunately I'm having to quote Ken Rockwell below
"The playback LCD is a tiny bit yellow, and I suspect that will go away with use. It's not enough to worry about."

I'm assuming according to the above, that LCD's change colour with use (obviously), but I'm also assuming that LCD have a burn in period where they change colour more rapidly when new, then settle down.

Otherwise I can't see why my green tinge issue has disappeared, as it definitely showed a green bias if only a slight one.
The colour I see on the LCD now, is the colour I see in real life.

You've been assimilated! :D

How are you getting on with the D800E's now? I've still got itchy feet, although now the clocks have gone forward and the light is improving I'll probably be happier again :)

If anything I was seeing a red tinge yesterday from my D800.

I haven't gotten around to putting this firmware on, has anyone seen any actual improvement in performance or needn't I bother?

^^ everyone on dpreview is raving about large improvements in AF performance?

Sounds interesting, just had a quick browse through DPR.
"Mine focuses in nearly completely dark on a dark object. AMAZING. and fast also."

I thought mine focused in low light pretty good anyway, but as I have 2 E's, I can test both, one with new and one with old firmware to see if there is actually any difference.

Really well, I have em setup and customised just how I like em, and so far performed flawless.

Will try out this new FW later, and see if they perform any different. :D

That would be interesting to do a side by side comparison.

Haven't had time to try out the new firmware ..... probably won't get to until this weekend. I'm one of those who isn't entirely with AF consistency using a wide aperture lens in low light/tungsten light conditions. So, I'll be absolutely delighted if the new firmware resolves that issue !
