Anyone on here got the new focus st and if so what are you getting around town and on the motorway/a road

I find the claims crazy hence me asking

Ford claim 50mpg on a run and 28 around town.

Seems far fetched for a 250bhp 2.0 turbo

They claim 50mpg 'extra-urban'. Don't confuse this with 'on a run', as it's almost certainly not what you think it is.

It's a cycle with an average speed of about 40mph with a single short burst at 70. Sit the thing at 70mph on a motorway and you aren't going to get 50mpg out of it.

Similarly with 'around town' - urban figures contain a cycle with a lot of standstill time, so cars that employ stop/start (im sure the new ST probably does) can hugely boost their figures in a way you'll never see in real life.

I struggled to get more than about 28mpg doing a daily 110-mile motorway commute, just sat on the cruise at 70-ish. Bit of a short 10-mile cross-country jaunt as well.

I doubt you will get anywhere near 50mpg in it. I would imagine 40 ish is more than doable on a long motorway trip though.

Rough average over on FocusSTOC seems to be about 22-28 general driving with 38-40 on a good run. About a 10% increase on the Mk2.

More than 10%. I really struggled to get more than 31mpg on a long run at 70-80 and so does/did everyone else I knew that owned one. I probably averaged around 24 mpg over my ownership I think. (I didn't do many long motorway miles)

There's your problem :D

Well what is the point in giving fuel economy figures for babying at 60 on the motorway which you are most likely never going to do.

If i coasted along at 55/60 for age im pretty sure i could get in the low-mid 40's in my Octy VRS but im not going to claim that i would ever get that in the real world.

Just pulling your leg. If you were whining your mpg sucks then it would be a different matter.
