Hi,

Basically, I have just installed f@h on a machine AMD 6000X2 and one client seems to be running faster than the other, is that normal? (It's also worth less PPD and taking longer; again is that normal?)

Secondly if all all goes well I can run f@h about 10hours a day on ^^^ and a [email protected] and 3800X2.

I have also seen that you can fold on an ATI card, I would also be interested in doing this as well, and could fold on a 1950XTX in the 6000X2 and a X800GTO in the 3800X2.

I hope that this is the right place to post:D.

Hi and welcome :)

Yip is the place to ask any and all questions concerning the folding malarky.

There are many different units, which vary widely in the length of time they take to complete and in the amount of points they are worth. The ones with the highest PPD are the most loved by us folders, but they are all equally important to the science, and that's what it's all about.

You can fold on the X1950XTX, but not on the X800GTO. The GPU client only works on X1900 series ATI cards and above. But despite they're huge crunching power, they get units with low PPD, and that coupled with a lot of power consumption and the availability of the Windows and Linux SMP clients, usually makes GPU folding unattractive. Plus the card needs a dedicated CPU core to run. With the aforementioned SMP clients now being pretty stable, the GPU client is seldom used.

Download the WinSMP client and see if you can make the completion deadlines. Their deadlines are usually around 3-4 days each. It's units are worth between 1440 and ~2200 points each, and allow a dedicated mildly overclocked Q6600 to average around 5000 PPD.

On Linux, maybe, but with the current WUs and mine at stock, I'm getting about 2700ppd with winSMP, so it's not going to be that much higher.

Apart from that, as above. Folding on GPUs isn't really worthwhile anymore, not only because of the ppd but as the fans have to run all the time, which is loud and annoying. Some people found constantly thrashing their cards not to work out too well on their life expectancy, too.

Maybe.

Here's one of the dreaded winSMP 3065's on full-fat -
