I fancy doing a folding pc, work has said i can leave it running in work 24/7 so no issue with leccy bill.

I was thinking along these lines

1 x Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 Intel X58

1 x Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz

1 x Corsair Value 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3

1 x MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 768MB GDDR5

Just the one GPU to start with to keep initial cost down, the board can have 3 so 2 more can be added later.

We have 500W PSUs at work, is that enough.
HDDs at work also.

Wait till Sunday and get a Sandybridge setup, forget the GPU and get 50K on bigadv folding.

Would it be worth moving to Sandybridge from a current i7 setup? I am still clueless as to what improvements Intel have made.

Nope, around the same price as i7 1366 kit. I think the CPU is around 260 and the mobos are just over 100.

Its new cpu and mobo.

Say you get 140 for the cpu and 60 or so for the mobo, you need to find another 200 or so to get the 2600K and P67 mobo.

On a similar note, how do i know when i am getting the bonus points for smp units.
I setup the passkey a few days ago, i know you need to return 10 on time but how do you know when its done 10?

158+vat for a 2500k (4 cores) around 280 of the 2600k (4+4 cores), and 110 will get you a nice P67 mobo.

As to the differance.
P67 can oc (via the multi) but on chip graphic's is redundent
H67 uses the on chip graphic's, multi is locked

Your points per WU go up dramatically. I'm currently crunching a 6074 WU which has a native credit of 481 but will actually give me about 2750 with bonuses. The results should be easily seen on EOC.

So just keep an eye on the points.

Nice air rifle by the way, i have a Daystate Airwolf and a AirArms S400 myself. Fancied a Theoben Type S for a while though.

S-type is very nose-heavy. We've got a used one in stock but it's FAC - .25 cal and 40ftlbs. Devastating piece of kit! Airwolf is a fine gun but that bit heavier (and more complex) than the MFR.

I've also got a Venom Sidewinder Compact plus a couple of HW pistols. Oh, and an FX Ranchero that's for sale.

I have a FAC, i love my Airwolf, everytime i try another rifle now i would always rather shoot my airwolf. I had a Logun Mk2 Pro at one point but sold it as i prefer the wolf, and the logun was a fine rifle. Been eyeing up a Daystate Ranger at 30ft/lbs in .22.

Anyway back on topic.

Im thinking along the lines of these

Asus P8P67 Intel P67

i7 2600K

OCZ Gold 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3

MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 768MB

Should come in under £550.

Also thinking of using a 1TB 2.5" laptop drive to keep heat and power consuption low. SSD would probably use less but the cost isnt worth it.

Do i have enough memory for the bigadv WU or is 4GB better.

You definitely need 4GB as my i7 PC is using 2.4GB to run bigadv WUs. You'll also get better performance with two DIMMs as the memory is then in dual-channel mode. This is why memory is normally sold in two (or three) DIMM kits.

I would stay with a standard 3.5" drive as it'll be faster than a normal (as opposed to Velociraptor) 2.5". There's a lot of data to write to disk at the checkpoints so the faster it's written the better. I've just bought a 90GB 3.5" SSD for my i7 and may fit it this weekend. There's an 80GB HDD in there along with the two 1GB HDDs so that'll come out.
