New Ford Fiesta

The mk 7 Fiesta has two options of 1.25 engines :

59bhp and 81bhp - Generally if it has Aircon it will have the 81bhp engine which will do 0 - 60 in around 12 seconds

great little cars, but would definitely opt for the 1.4, as 1.25 can feel a little strained on longer journeys. although have driven a 1.25 on a 400+ round journey and i wasn't dead by the end of it, no back ache so i'm sure it would be perfectly adequate. :-)

Is it really worth financing a bog standard Fiesta? Why not get one a few years old?

I'd go for the 1.6 as the others will be gutless.

The difference between a Zetec and a Zetec S is the bodykit. Thats it.

I bought a 1.6 TDCI Zetec in 2009. Was a really great car and considering the amount of miles I put on it, it held its value really well.

The Zetec S would have held its value even better, however having 5 doors were more important to me.

Any reason you're not looking at the TDCI engines? Residuals are far better if you're buying new.

I don't do the miles to make a diesel worth it. I was in a long distance relationship when I bought the diesel clio but now I'm doing 6,000 miles a year max.

Mainly going down the finance, new car route because the difference in price once you look at the employee discount and the fact I'd have to get finance from a bank for the full amount instead of the options route makes a new car the easy option.

Is your current Clio going to cost more than £160 a month to keep on the road?

It seems daft buying a brand new car just because your current car is needing the odd repair.

It's not really the odd repair. It needs a new EGR valve, cam belt and service so £800+. I've had it for two years and fancy a change.

has to be the 1.6.

1.2 will be painful, unless its ONLY used around town. If you want to use it on the motorway, and try to get into the BMW lane a 1.2 just wont cut it.

"Be aware that the current 1.25 is a LOT slower than the previous 1.25s. It now takes 16.9 seconds to 60 and flat out it'll do 94mph"

Apparently.

hmm im sure the 1.25 was 75bhp.... How can it only be 59bhp now? detuned for tax/emissions? The new Fiesta is lighter so the 110bhp in the 1.6 makes it almost as fast as a bog standard Mk6 Fiesta ST.

You're changing it for something entirely similar though, so it's a bit pointless

Most of that expense is routine, so you'll need to do it on whatever you buy. You'll have broken even after 4 months, seems pointless.

Have you seen the Clio thread - renaultsport Clio 200 for 199 a month. That would be a worthwhile upgrade and cheaper than the 1.6 fiesta

somehow i don't think this chap will want a Cliosport 200 ;)

routine maintainance then. you actually shopped around for a price because 800 sounds very steep?

There are two 1.25 engines. The lower 1.25 produces only 59bhp where as the better 1.25 produces 80bhp :).

I have the new fiesta, the 1.6 Zetec S.

Its a fantastic little car, nippy at low end, but its not a hot hatch, more like a warm one.

Fuel economy is good, I can easily get 41mpg, and thats not driving like a grandad.

I drove the 1.4 and found it ok around town, but on the motorway it was painful.

Get the 1.6, you wont regret it.

Parents had a 1.6 Fiesta (not sure which mk but was a new design in 2002) and iirc it had 99hp. I learnt in it and it wasn't a bad car. We now have the new Corsa with the 89hp 1.4 and due to all the extra weight it feels slow and the mpg is the same as the Fiesta.

If I was in the position to buy the new Fiesta I would want to at least try the 1.6, as with 118hp it will be should than adequate for the car (but without trying for yourself it is hard to say).

EDIT: Looked at the 1.6 petrol and the mpg and emmisions certainly seem good.
