New ford focus RS

Now Ford, give us a Mondeo ST with AWD and that 2.3L engine.

Well if Ford were smart they would do this and they would also do an RS version too and put the 5.0l Coyote from the Mustang in it and say only build 500 units, so limited version. A 400BHP Mondeo would be different! :D

I'd be surprised if there wasn't one (from the launch site):
...Part of a performance onslaught by Ford that will bring more than 12 new performance vehicles to customers through 2020.

even with a couple of special/limited editions there are going to struggle to get 12 vehicles without including a performance Mondeo

That would be the dream :D but sadly I can't see that ever happening. That said, they do have the 3.5L Ecoboost V6...

That was my thinking as well when they announced they were going to make 12 performance vehicles.

Isn't what we call the Mondeo also the Fusion over in America? If so surely they'd be a market for a beefed up 5.0 version of that to compete over there?

Looks great although this presenter is a bit Alan Partridge.

Autocar expect it to cost around £30k. How much would is one likely to sell for in 2 years time?

RS looks good, I was under impression today was Civic R day, I guess its the 9th now?

Looks a good AWD unit able to shuffle torque across the axle properly unlike the haldex system they tried a few years ago. I was under the impression the turbo was a twinscroll unit slightly smaller than the Mustang one?

The Mondeo is a tranverse engine based on EUCD platform, cant see a V8 going in that.... ever.

They have the Taurus which is one size up from the Fusion/Mondeo and their SHO version has the V6 Ecoboost. I don't think they'd put the bigger V8 engine in the smaller Fusion/Mondeo.

They'd be more like to make a performance Taurus than the Fusion, I imagine.

Edit: Derp, didn't see the post above.

I like the looks, and I like the 4WD system as long as it's not adding a load of weight.

But the engine choice, meh. Another four pot turbo? How about actually putting something half special in it.

For that reason I'd still take a Mk.2 over this, it just seems a bit more unique and special.

Nobody is going to make a car like this with anything more than a I4 in it anymore, the only exception would be something like a boxer 4 from Subaru.

And that's exactly why I wouldn't have one. Given a new Golf R or mint Mk.5 R32 I'd take the latter, all day, every day, without a moment's hesitation.
