New ford focus RS

Well decided today that after 12 months living with the Mustang GT I wanted something a little easier to use everyday and that was a little bit more nimble. Popped down to Ford and did a deal on a Magnetic Grey RS which I should be picking up on Saturday.

Lets see how it goes I suppose. Be strange going from the GT to an RS but hoping its going to be fun.

Without having to dig through 48 pages of thread, is there anything I should look to do immediately? the 375 tune is on the list for the future but for now will leave it stock. I like the colour as my Triple Yellow GT was a bit too in your face so looking forward to the Grey. I did see pics of the plates and thought maybe a set would help but is there anything else I need to spend money on first?

You can tow us out at the next snowy meet now :p

Magnet Grey is the best colour :D
Check the tyres pressures. Set to the lower values as shown on the door shut/B pillar.
If it's new/not used yet make sure the shipping blocks have been removed from the suspension.
The Mountune FPM375 kit suits the car so well and keeps the warranty.
Mod it to turn the fake exhaust noise off (disconnect two wires behind the head unit, I put a micro switch in mine)
Get a Autowatch Ghost system fitted.
Improve your house security.
Enjoy :D

It is a new car with 8 miles on the clock. I'll check for the blocks if I can figure out where lol. Would have thought they stand out a mile though so will give it a look over.

What is the break in process like? The one I test drove the salesman launched it and I wasn't kind with it with 10 miles in it so was put off that one even though it was available with discount. It was also missing the nav and door edge protectors which I wanted and was black which I am not a fan of.

I'll google the other bits. Any main RS forums to join? I joined most of the Mustang ones and was a STOC member when I had a Mondeo ST.

I'm old school so still believe in running in. I kept the revs over 1500 and under 3000 for the first 500 miles and not put much load on the engine, so part throttle, but drove it crisply, not lazy. Don't hold it at constant rpm/speed, I lift and coast and reapply the power. After 500 miles just extended it to 3500 rpm and nice snappy gear changes. I felt the first 1000 miles the car/ecu was limiting anyway, as after it seem to become more willing and eager. by 1500 miles I was up to 4000 occasional 4500. (first pops and bangs started)
At 1500 miles I had an oil change and then continued to extend it and using a bit more throttle travel. From then just keep extending a bit further every few hundred miles,
You have to give it enough work so as not to glaze the bores, but also want to let all the bearings etc bend in. Don't labour it or use high load and keep the revs varying, power on, and lift style of driving. A bit of mechanical sympathy does no harm in my view, obviously know one told the idiot salesman

Try the https://mk3focusrs.club/ loads of info and info on the forum... and the official RSOC, sadly a bit quiet these days.

Did you go on a few long runs to eat most of that mileage?

It would be extremely difficult to resist the temptation to hoon over a long period of time.

Yep, I had a few business trips to do, midlands to North East and south to Essex, so was even able to claim 40p a mile to run it in LOL... Some how I've got to 7500 miles in around 9 months :o
