Nothing concrete but we were wondering if the following subforum would be of interest:

'Career and development'

A place to discuss CV's, interviews, jobs, disputes etc..

As I said, just gauging interest at this stage.

I personally don't have interest in it, but could see how it could be useful to branch that out of GD.

As such voted 'Yes'.

No, the only people who will look at it will be those who need help. Those that could post a quick bit of advice aren't going to go in there very often.

Totally agree. Thus voted no.

General Discussion and you get more people's view and experience than just those needing help or free to pop into the sub-section to help.

I agree you are right in its effects but if that is the case, shouldn't we merge all of the struggling tech subforums?

You could argue though that replies will likely be more serious with less trolling, baiting and outright judgement.

I think there is merit to the idea and that as a hobbyist/enthusiast forum, the priority should not be to cater for those looking for career advice but rather to those who either want to frequent here for entertainment whether it is related to overclocking or not.

Voted yes

Also a sticky thread on ebay/amazon stuff :D

There are still parts of the forum I've yet to even look at, and I've not noticed a large number of job related threads that weren't about a girl or something.

Now if we were talking about a "spec me a chair" sub forum, well that's going to be massive innit.

Don't take this as a negative vote, I've just got nothing valid to say :)

Where does it end, tho?

If a certain topic is popular on GD, does that mean it merits its own sub-forum?

Continue that logic to the end, and eventually there will be nothing to discuss in GD, because everything will have its own forum.

It also guarantees *less* views for those threads. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't look at half the subforums we have here, so if you keep making new ones and moving posts there, you'll just get less participation.

The more you dilute GD, the more GD just becomes a place to spam and have absolutely nothing constructive to say at all.

Best course of action: Ditch GD.

I voted "yes" but then saw this and i agree. Therefore i rescind my yes vote!

The idea behind the sub-forum is to allow the subject space to flourish in its own way and hopefully benefit the community as a whole. It is not aimed at taking anything away from GD.

Just take a look at how La Cuisine has taken off since being created. Not many could have expected that to happen based on the previous threads we had.

I'd vote for a megathread a bit like the relationship advice one. I don't think you'd get enough views in a subforum to provide the help people need except from a select few dedicated individuals.

I'd vote for a megathread a bit like the relationship advice one.

The problem is that megathreads don't cater well for individual needs. They're great for discussion, but to give proper attention to a topic individual threads are always best.
