New FPS game to play

Stalker: Had a look at that but a little bit unsure. It describes itself as a "survival FPS" and given my dislike of Doom I'm not sure if that would be more of the same kind of thing.

It's not like Doom really, it's not a linear shock-around-ever-corner game (looking at you, Doom 3), it's an open-world FPS split over a few large areas with sidequests in addition to the main storyline quests. Almost an FPS/RPG hybrid but not really given the lack of stats. I guess the "survival FPS" line comes from the inventory management you have to do (limited number of weapons, ammo etc) while "surviving" in what they call the zone.

Anyway all three are great games, definitely worth playing. Give the first one a try at least, it should be pretty cheap now. You might want to install the Stalker Complete 2009 mod for updated graphics and some other fixes.

It was largely criticised due to its multiplayer because the previous title's multiplayer was held in such high regard.
Personally, I'm not in the least bit interested in multiplayer and thought the single player was a pretty good effort (I'd say 8/10).
The biggest thing for me that separates good and bad fps is the feel of the weapons/gunplay and I think Wolfenstein got this just right.

Thanks I might keep an eye on the pricing of it and pick it up when it comes on offer etc

Fallout 3 - Not really a FPS, but you can play it like one by not using VATS. Best FPS i've played since my previous favourite.. Far Cry.. and I also didn't like Crysis, Bioshock.

+1 for Portal.. also definately not an FPS in the purest sense of the acronym, but still an awsome game.

No-one else has mentioned Call of Juarez.. not played myself.. but supposed to be ok.
