New FPS website.... not finished yet

What's with the stealth menu? Not very user friendly.

Also the images on the home page are far too big, shrink them down in photoshop rather than using html/css to do this. Will help reduce loading times. The originals are over 1000px wide when they only need to be 300px in your template.

The green writing on the initial page with your clan tag on is a bit difficult to read, there is too much black on it. I agree with the stealth menu, It looks broken. At least shade it dark grey so you can just see the text, and keep the mouseover.
It different, and it looks ok. Better than some clan sites ive seen!

You posted this before... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18077891

I stick by my original comments.

Yeah tbh i'm not to keen on the front page anymore, thought it was a good idea at the time... ok i'l change that.... I need to create a navigation page more than anything.... sumthign that will take the user to each clan webpage.

Its the battlefield page i'm more interested in comments for, can i just say tho this is the first site i have ever created + i'm new to photoshop etc:

thats gr8 guys, really need sum help tbh. As i said this is my first ever one, antenna is pretty basic web creation programme and i'm not the most technically gifted person.

So all advice is good advice...

The battlefield page was made by me, the others were made by sum1 else in the clan. I agree it just doesn't seem to fit in with BF stuff.. might just buy a new domain.

So can you give me sum idea's on the first page, i'l scap what i've done. Could sum1 give me links to "profession" websites. I just need a front page basically and need to tweek the BF page?

TBH mate if you wanting something looking great and all matching straight out of the box id suggest trying a CMS (content management system)
Clicking my sig will point you in the right way ;)

I agree with Lecro. Just save yourself the effort and get a CMS. You'll be able to do a lot more with it. If you want to mess with styles, you can. Personally, I'm too lazy to create a full theme from scratch so I just used a template and changed the header on mine.

Lecro's clan site uses phpnuke while mine uses vbadvanced.
You can also easily change themes with vbadvanced. On the bottom left there is a select box, if you choose 'blackstream', it'll change to another theme.

Great to see people are quick to **** it off but when i ask for constructive feedback you all run and hide..... shocking!

Sort the front page out asap - as that really is shocking. Don't make the user guess what they have to do or guess where the link will go. E.g. on the front page you know exactly where the link go and that the images are links. Make it a lot more obvious.

The navigation menu at http://www.taymar.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/l4d.htm is awful - why hide the links?

The header image is far too big - make this smaller.

I'm looking at the sites on my work laptop - 1024x768 resolution - i have to scroll horizontally to view the site - very bad design. The max width for a fixed width site (like yours) is usally around 960px.

has a LOT of unnecessary code. But you did mention you were using some kind of WYSIWYG editor?

Just looking into the structure, it makes no sense what-so-ever semantically speaking. Disable the CSS and you'll see what I mean.

If you are after a basic page with basic images and text, then fair enough. But if this is your attempt at learning web development, I would suggest you do lots more reading first.

The main tip I would suggest is to look at sites like CSS Mania and CSS Beauty for inspiration, then make steps to learn how to code xhtml and css manually.

It's a head-wreck at first, and daunting when you start, but really worth it when it starts to click. I learned from scratch myself from not having a clue about coding. There are loads of tutorials on the web, and you can learn a lot by seeing bits you like on other sites and viewing the source code to work out how they did it.

And you don't need any fancy software to code sites other than notepad++ which is free.

Of course unless you have any real hopes of persuing a career related to web-design, and this site is just a one-off for you, this wouldn't be worth the effort.
