So long story short our BT cab was FINALLY enabled for fiber today, so excitedly we placed our order, then only got disappointed when the next available engineer visit wasn't for another month!!!

Is there any way to get this sooner? A month to wait is a bit daft.

Keep calling and checking if they have a cancellation and can bring it forward each day. It's Christmas, new installs and holidays are rife this time of year, installs will be stopped a few days either side of Christmas, same with new year so engineer availability will be limited.

The BT open reach availability is ridiculous at the moment. There is a possibility you can get a earlier appointment but that involves ringing up everyday because as soon as a slot becomes available it will get filled up quite quickly, anyway around 2-3 weeks is the quickest you will get in most circumstances. And chancing getting a earlier appointment while waiting in the phone queue is just not worth it IMO. Another thing i have found is BT open reach engineers are really bad for missing appointments.

Problem is residential customers are considered as "luxury" where business customers are classed as "necessity". What this basically means is all business customers get priority treatment and residential get what ever is available. This is from experience from working at a ISP.

i had a 3 week wait just to get my fibre switched back on after a 3 month break from bt infinity..but i cancelled my phone line too

impressive for me was that within in an hour my phone had beed switched on and new number assigned (glad the £50 connection fee was included)

if only switching internet on was that simple

Anything that requires an engineer visit or that includes a number port from another provider takes two weeks minimum.

If there's a pre-existing line with a new number and it's a remote activation then I've seen lines go active within three days.

Remote activation can be done a lot quicker than that, certainly no more than 2 hours if the pair's are still active in the cab, the reason for the delay is COSAR needs to go live and the emergency services database needs to be updated or the fines are quite large in the event of a 999 call.

Number ports the process calls for 72hrs, again it can be fudged a lot quicker, the main issue is the donor network needs notice, realisitcally if the port in/out teams have to they can be done much more quickly.

Ok thanks for the fudge option explanation.

Back to the real world with the usual timescales... :p

True but expedited activations cost extra and are rarely done unless there's a very good reason and we've been advised we can't expedite orders with a number port. Not sure why that is.
