Hi all, Hoping for some advice. Moving from a laptop to a gaming PC system. Ideally I want a full system that has the ability to be upgraded down the line. The system has to be powerful enough to run VR games as We have an Oculus headset. Is £750 enough to enter the world of PC gaming with the above needed? Thx for looking....

Hi

Monitor, keyboard mouse, etc will reduce your budget to £600 for the computer.

Windows keys can be had for £10 online.

There is a big shortage of graphics cards and prices are high so your options are limited.

Thankyou. Even if bad news for me it is good info. Is the shortage for all mid - high graphics cards? Just wondering if there is a graphics card that would handle VR that could be upgraded later?

The short answer is no. Unfortunately with the current situation 600 will get you bugger all, new or second hand, in terms of high performance.

You would be on a very tight budget... Would you be able to wait? Play laptop games for another 5 months or so?

I mean mouse keyboard monitor brings you to 600 quid left.

Cpu/mobo/16gb ram you're looking at around £300 at least. That's pretty bargain stuff like intel 10400.

So 300 left...
Case/psu/ssd/hdd you're looking at at least £170 with minimal storage.

So you've got £130 to buy the most expensive and overpriced item of all... The unicorn: gpu.

Best you would get for that is a gtx980, a 1060 (3gb) and that's if you're lucky at auction.

If vr is your focus, forget about a pc for now, sell your current occulus and get the new one. I forget the name but the one you don't need a pc for.

Horrible news but that's the market atm. Sad times.

It's for basically all gpus except crappy gtx7q0s that can barely play Facebook games.

You might get really lucky at auction but it would require some work and likely getting up at 2am or 4am to be disappointed several times that you weren't the only one with the same idea and got outbid .

Personally I'd try and increase the budget to 300 for the gpu, and with that try and get lucky and get a gtx1080 or 1070ti at auction. That is, if you can be bothered with the hassle and expense.

I got a 1080 for 340 quid but came with a waterblock which I sold reducing the price to around 270.
You've gotta be a little savvy in todays market.
