Hi Guys

Received my new Dell 27" g sync monitor earlier in the week which I ordered off the site, lovely monitor and I'm really happy with it. Hooked it all up with my HDMI lead at first not knowing it needed the other lead in the box, not sure what that actual lead is called but connecting that made the g sync work and it run at 144hz at 2560 x 1440 res.

I have a Gigabyte Geforce 980ti graphics card in my computer and ive found since the g sync has been on the coil wine has started being nosier than usual even on football manager 2016 which is running at the same 144mhz and same resolution.

Also when I went to play dying light the graphics card is working a lot harder than ever before and the fans are working a lot harder and its kicking out quite abit of heat than it ever was running at 60hz. I dont mind this as much as the coil wine, but will it be ok running like that?? it wont over heat will it??

Any help would be great, cheers guys.

Run HWMonitor or MSI after burner to confirm temps, but it would like your putting the card to good use :)

I always get abit worried when its working its arse off and can feel warmth coming out of the pc. Any ideas about the coil wine never done it when playing football manager before, lets face it, its not a demanding game on a system. I have MSI afterburner. What kind of temps should I be looking at?? Thanks mate.

Check that all fans are operating, air flow in case and have a look at dust build up if the card is a few months old and been used a lot.

Worse case, faulty card and a RMA is needed.

Possible that Football Manager is running at ludicrous frame rate. At super high frame rates coil whine gets really bad.

Yeah i did turn off v sync in the nvidia control panel. Would this make the game frame rate not capped??? if not is there anyway of caping it??? Yeah i agree on the loading screen but its also doing it in game.

Ive just gone to a 980ti evga hybrid with the same monitor. And my temps are never over 40 with gpu usage on 90+%! On msi afterburner is your fan profile on auto? Maybe up the fan abit.

Yeah, you can either use a software based frame cap, or simply go into control panel and turn V-sync on. Pretty sure that when you do this with 'monitor technology' set to G-sync it doesn't actually activate V-sync but instead caps it at 143.5 FPS (if using a 144Hz monitor) so G-sync is active at all times (Gregster did a video about it on his youtube channel iirc). With V-sync off it's likely you've been running football manager at like 200+ FPS, hence the coil whine. Give it a go and see if it helps!

Also probably a bit of a stupid thing to mention, but I'm assuming that your previous monitor was also 1440p? If you're coming from 1080p that would explain the high(er) temps on your G1, given that your GPU is having to work much harder at the higher resolution.

Yeah my previous monitor was 1440p. Ive just put on dying light with msi temp in the corner, to be honest the card isnt that noisey this time but it was in the 80's very quick then was at 90 after about 10-15 minutes of playing. The fan speed is at 25, any other advice guys????

The fan speed shouldn't be anything close to 25% at 90 degrees. I don't really use afterburner myself but it might be worth double checking that you haven't accidentally set a manual fan curve that you didn't mean to. Outside of that it seems that it may be RMA time I'm afraid, if the fan controller isn't responding to die temperature as it should be.

I've got an MSI Gaming ti and if I recall correctly at max load on, for example, the Witcher 3 over a few hours the fan speed might eek up towards 60% or so, maintaining a temperature in the high 70's. I would have thought that the G1 would be pretty similar.

I have just been on company of heroes 2 for a good hour and the temp barely made it into the 70's that's with the fan speed at 39. I shall put on dying light again, see what it does.

Just gone back on dying light and within 10 minutes the temp was back up to 83, although it didnt get above this. Theres plenty of ventilation is my case, fans right open at the front, its got a bit that pops up on the top as well. My fan speed on msi is at 39 and the fans were quite loud.

Is your case on the floor - carpet? dust?

Secondly, my dying light does this on my Radeon 7970s but even on max graphics on this card it barely hits 65c and the game is built on nividia cards. I'd say if it keeps doing it, just RMA it and get a new one.
