Evening all,

Around 2500 quid at disposal.

  • Main idea of the build is for gaming and making sure I have the upgrade ability in the long-term to switch to a 6 core should gaming head that way.
  • The unit is to last me at least 3 years.
  • I am going for a Black and Gold build.
  • I already have peripherals and a BenQ XL2411T 120HZ monitor

- Reason for splitting into 2 purchases is that I am currently selling my old unit to generate 800 quid +

- Currently have 1775 available for Part 1.

The 4770k is better for gaming than the 4820k, so unless you can stretch to a 4930k (and unless you also do video editing and so on) I'd stick with Haswell:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus GeForce GTX 780Ti DirectCUII OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £539.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £259.99
1 x SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 1000W Fully Modular "80 Plus Platinum" Power Supply - White £149.99
1 x Asus Z87-PRO Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £147.95
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black (CC-9011030-WW) £129.95
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £129.95
1 x Corsair Hydro H105 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) £93.95
1 x Avexir Gold Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17200C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U21330904G-2CEY) - Yellow/Gold Light £79.99

1 x Corsair AF140 Quiet Series Low Noise High Airflow - Single Pack (CO-9050009-WW) £14.99
1 x BitFenix Alchemy 24Pin ATX Extension 30cm - sleeved gold/black £7.99
1 x BitFenix Alchemy 8-Pin PCIe Extension 45cm - sleeved gold/black £6.98
1 x BitFenix Alchemy 6Pin PCIe Extension 45cm - sleeved gold/black £5.99
1 x BitFenix Alchemy 8Pin EPS12V Extension 45cm - sleeved gold/black £4.99
Total : £1,679.66 (includes shipping : £12.50).

Added some braided cables for extra sexiness. Make sure you get some gold spray paint for the rings on those fans. I also picked the h105 over the h100i - it has better performance due to the thicker radiator, and it has a ring on the pump similar to the Corsair fans that you can paint gold too.

EDIT: If you do want to stick with the 2011 socket, dropping the soundcard will allow you to fit a 4930k into the overall budget - although you would obviously be over budget for part 1.

The only things I would change here would be the H105 as it doesn't allow you to utilize Corsair Link 2, so I'd swap for the H100i, and the braided cables. I've mentioned Mr Labidos quite the braiding connoisseur and since the PSU comes with more than you need, he could easily get them braided while still using the PC.

Well, I think Haswell's longevity should last for around 2-3 years, but certainly not pass that :D

SB-E and IV-E will certain do the job, but that is rather expensive if you wanna go for 4930k... :S

Thank you for the feedback all.

z87 boards seem to be a bit limited for the 4770k approach. I really like the AI Suite 3 that Asus provides but the Sabertooth only supports 1866 RAM, apart from having very appealing aesthetics.

Does anyone use a Sabertooth running 2133+ RAM?

All Z87 boards support RAM at or over 2133mhz. At stock it will run at somewhere between 1333 and 1866, depending on the board. You just have to enable the XMP profile in the BIOS to get it up to speed. X79 boards are the same.
