Hey guys, 1st post!!

Right, basically iv'e been wanting to build a new PC for some time now, and after xmas, i will have the funds to do this.
Ive been looking around for hardware and i thnk iv'e come up with a decent system for the money, but i wanted you guys to have a look and see if it'll be a decent rig, or if anything could be improved for the same cash etc. etc.
Basically just want some oppinions.

Below is the spec iv'e come up with:

- MoBo - Gigabyte AM3 Socket 790X DDR3 (ATX size)
- CPU - AMD Phenom II 3.4GHz Black Edition
- Graphics Card - Gigabyte GeForce GTX260 "Super OverClocked"
- RAM - OCZ Gold Series DDR3 1600MHz (4GB)
- HDD - Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB 7200 RPM (16MB cache)
- Case - Antec 300
- PSU - OCZ StealthXStream 600W (SLI Ready)

And that little lot comes to £620 approx. (£ 630 on the dot, delivered)

The DVD drive i'm taking out of my old machine, as well as some extra USB ports (every little helps) and i'm putting windows 7 on the system (i get a code and download off my university for free with the course i'm doing :)).

So ... How does that sound?

Edit - Forgot to ask.. that system is ok for a 64Bit OS isn't it??

Hi and welcome
The gfx card isnt the best value, Id look at ATI and preferably a new 5 series card for DX11 support
The HDD is quite poor tbh
Im assuming as it doesnt specify the PSU is a no name budget brand, avoid at all costs, cant re-iterate this enough, if it blows (which no name budget ones tend to) theres a good chance it will take a few other things with it

Have a look at something like this, marginally more but has better HDD, gfx card and PSU

Edit: Oh btw if you want to Oc youll have to add an aftermarket cooler, allow £20 for this

I agree about the PSU and the HDD (though i really dont need much storage) but i'm not really sure about ATI Card's (never used one) and the many numbers seem to confuse me. Also, you get people saying the older 4xxx series cards are faster than the newer 5xxx ones?

and i cant afford to go over £600... that really is my limit (was originally £550).

Thanks for the input :):)

just drop the HDD down to the 500gig version then, £39 so saves £30 bringing you in under budget, I should have done that myself really, lol :D
the new 5 series cards are quicker, when comparing model for model
you see a few people saying that because at the same price point you have 5770 and 4870, the 8 designating an enthusiast card the 7 a main stream card, however performance difference is negligible and will only swing in the 5 series' card favour with new driver releases, plus the added benefit of DX11, not much use now but means youre in less of a need to upgrade next year

Updated above... its just over budget, but i haven't changed the GFX card yet (see what other people say.. its better to have lots of different oppinions :))
