Hi all,

Looking to build a gaming PC for Son no.2 he's 13.. and we're looking to build the PC together, so not looking for prebuilt at all..

He primarily wants it for gaming and i'm giving him a mouse / keyboard and 1080p monitor, although he also has a 4k tv in his room, which he may want to connect the PC to.

The sort of games are, fortnite, roblox etc.. so nothing too taxing.. however, the other slight complication is he is into VR gaming on his Quest 3, and loves PCVR, things like blade and sorcery, HL Alyx, and others.. (He uses my PC at the moment, but really wants to run on his own PC!)

Budget can be stretched to 1k max.

I'd quite like him to go AMD cpu, so firstly i'm unsure whether to go AM4 or AM5, but AM4 is quite a bit cheaper so can fit in a better grfxs card possibly?!? (Although not firm on this if an intel build would be better!)

Not fussed between Nvidia and AMD, but bare in mind the VR requirement if possible!

He says he wants a white case (teenagers eh!!) , but I will try to disuade him from this to get a cheaper case.

Also don't need an OS, as I have a spare win 10/11 key..

I've tried putting together various specs into the OCUK basket, but would like to get others opinions.

Thanks in advance.
R.

is the 7800XT good for VR then?
yeah the radeon drivers have matured so no issues with them nowadays as far as i am aware
if it was 2023 then i'd have opted for nvidia

the other thing to consider is that dlss works better in vr than fsr (or, in general, really)
but you'd be paying more for the nvidia equivalent, or dropping a graphics tier - not recommended
