New gaming build or upgrade parts individually

Hey guys, I have had my computer I got from pcworld a few years ago, but since it wasn't really a gaming computer, I have been having trouble running many of the new games released, and I am looking to either upgrade parts or just start from scratch entirely, whichever is better.

My current computer is: ADVENT QC5003
CPU Intel® Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33GHz)
Motherboard Intel® DG45ID
Memory 3GB DDR2 PC2-5300 (2x1024MB + 2x512MB)
Hard Drive 500GB SATA II hard drive
CD / DVD Drive Blu-Ray Super Multi Double Layer DVD±RW drive
Video / Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT
Sound Card IDT 92HD73E HD Audio Codec
Network Card Intel® 82567LF Gigabit (10/100/1000 Mb/s) Ethernet LAN controller
Case TLM725-2
*the graphics card I bought when buying the original machine.

The games I am currently playing mostly are Wow, Lol, Dayz, CS:S, Diablo 3, but since I will be going to University, rather than buying a new xbox (currently share with brothers) I will be looking to be buying many games like Call of Duty and Battlefield which I would normally buy on console for pc instead, so being able to keep ugrading parts afterwards to keep up with current graphics would be great. General programs I use often which are almost always up are Skype, Steam, Firefox and iTunes. Also I am looking for it to be able to run two screens, which I already have and don't need to be included. I am thinking of purchasing the Razer Tiamat 7.1 surround sound headset which says it needs a soundcard which is able to produce 7.1 surround sound.

My budget is around £600-£700, but this can change if it is worth the extra money so ideas over the budget are open aswell. If their are lights on the case I would prefer the colour blue as I have a few Razer products all with blue lights :D
Would be great if people could help as I am not great with building computers, as I said I am not sure if it is worth upgrading current parts or starting from scratch.
If there is any other information needed please let me know and I will be happy to provide you with them :)

*Thanks to post made decision to keep my DVD-RW and Current Hard Drive

Your looking at a new build but you can salvage components such as HDD and DVD-RW etc if they are SATA. Network card and sound card will also most likely be salvageable as long as they run in modern PCI slots.

I'll draw up a quick build in just a mo :)

Also what Windows are you using and is it 64 bit?

EDIT here you go:

YOUR BASKET
1 x PowerColor HD 7850 PCS+ Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ Nexuiz & Dirt Showdown PC Games £191.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £184.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £84.98
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £83.99
1 x BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Case - Black £49.99
1 x Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 500W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.98
1 x Cooler Master Hyper 612S CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366/1156/1155/775/AM3/AM2+/AM2) £31.79
1 x TeamGroup Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38192M1600HC11DC) £29.99
Total : £722.70 (includes shipping : £12.50).

You'd definitely benefit from some DDR3 RAM, not just in gaming but every other application.

And also a newer GPU that will be more powerful/cooler/quieter (basically more efficient)!

Doesn't seem necessary to replace hard drive/sound card etc if they all work ok...

Maybe upgrade to i5-3*** and a board with SATA III so you can make use of a quick SSD...

Cheers

Thanks for quick replies,
Currently got Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Was planning on keeping the DVD-RW and Hard Drive as always usefull to have more than one but wasn't sure whether needed a newer one aswell.
Would a new machine have some sort of Windows software already on it? If so getting Ultimate again won't be a problem, as I said I don't know much about computers.

And Windows wise you would need to purchase one, Windows Home Premium would be fine though, that costs £84 on here.

Gotta love student discounts :P Ty for the extra info on that, and good point Bacon? about the Hard Drive, should be ok with the one I have, just wipe it I think as I have a lot of stuff on there I dont need. And the Windows, thanks for letting me know about that aswell.

Be sure to save the pron! lol

I don't know if this is frowned upon so apologies if it is. But i have done several reinstalls of the same copy of windows but only ever had it registered in one place at any one time.
So providing you still have your product key you should be fine!

Yeh, I will have a look into it, think it may work like games with product keys, when you take it if one computer you can then install onto another, but definately need to look at it.
Going to go out for a bit, so will reply to any other posts later if there are any, thank you very much so far, new ideas are always welcome aswell.
