Just built the following rig, everything was brand new accept for the Memory, Crucial SSD and Seagate Hard Drive which were from my last rig.

MSI Z97I Gaming AC Intel Z97 (latest bios) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor
16GB (2x8GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Low Profile (CML16GX3M1A1600C9)
MSI Radeon R9 290X Gaming Edition 4096MB
Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Crucial M4 CT256M4SSD2 2.5" 256GB SSD - Boot on Sata 1
Samsung 1TB SSD 840 EVO - Games on Sata 2
Seagate 3TB Hard Drive ST3000DM001 7200rpm - Media on Sata 3
Pioneer BDR-209DBK 16x SATA Internal BD/DVD/CD Burner - on Sata 4
Corsair Builder Series CX 600w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Corsair Obsidian Series 250D Mini ITX Compact Gaming Case
OS = Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9841

Well it all went together fairly easily, booted first time and installation of OS and drivers went smoothly but after a couple of hours I began having problems.

1. The 290x does not show in MSI Board explorer in Bios but does in Command Center in Windows.

2. The Corsair H100i USB Driver won't install and Link software won't work so I've left the USB unplugged for now. After much googling it seems many folk are having the same problem.

3. My rig randomly shuts down and takes 3 or 4 attempts to get it to boot up again. After it as restarted / crashed it will turn back on (fans + lights on) but doesn't turn monitor on, so I turn it off and on a few times and eventually it works but as reset bios back to default. When it does boot up I get a code A2 in bottom right corner.

4. I'm not overclocking but I did select an XMP profile for my memory but this seems to cause it to crash more often.

I've looked at Event Viewer in Windows after a crash and this it what it tells me.

I'm guessing most people are going to say it's Windows 10 for obvious reasons but from my understanding it's almost as stable as 8.1. I've also tried installing Windows 7 from Disk but it locks up on first screen. If anyone as got any advice it would be much appreciated, I'm pulling my hair out!

Thanks

Have you tried booting from onboard graphics on the cpu? That'll tell you if its gpu related.

I couldn't get corsair link to work either on my h100i. I wouldn't bother tbh

I tried turning my rig on this morning and as usual it took a few attempts before I got it working, when the monitor eventually came to life it displayed a C9 followed by a A2 in the bottom corner than flashed up the MSI full screen before booting in to windows. The MSI screen tells me Bios as reset again to default as I always turn it off.

Video card is detected as a "ATI compatible VGA" which seems strange as Board explorer gives everything else its proper name I.e. corsair memory and it being an MSI card and all.

I'm probably going to abandon windows 10 even though I don't believe it as anything to do with these issues, I'm just not comfortable with the whole keylogging etc. so I'll be going back to Windows 7 till retail release of 10.

I do have another PSU I can swap over so going to try that, I'm also considering removing the M4 and just having the 1TB EVO as my Boot + Games drive as I only use around 80GB of the M4's 256GB for Windows and Apps etc. I'm also considering buying new memory, would I be better off with 2 x 4GB of something newer and faster or should I just keep my older 2 x 8GB?

I'm not sure what I should do about the H100i, it seems a lot of people can't get it working with the Link software. My CPU temps seem to hover around 37 - 40 in general use so I guess it must be working without the USB plugged in but it's hardly fully functional. Should I return or just keep it as is?

Thanks for the help guys your input is appreciated :)

Well I decided to check over connections and noticed that due to the motherboard being butted right up against the fans of the H100i the power cable didn't click in properly (now fixed) I also removed the M4 SSD, reset bios, turned off all UEFI options in bios, set memory back to XMP profile and installed Windows 7, Apps and games on to the 1TB EVO 840 SSD.

Happy to report after over 24 hours of near continual use and it hasn't skipped a beat :)

Even glad I went back to Windows 7, it's like a breath of fresh air after 8.1 and 10!

Oh and the H100i is working great with Link software now.

glad its all sorted.

After reading your comments about 8.1 its making me wonder if I should go to 8.1 at all as I am still on 7.

Even glad I went back to Windows 7, it's like a breath of fresh air after 8.1 and 10!

its not the first time I have heard this being said on the forum

When I first installed Windows 8.1 I was like wow this is all new which then descended in to how can I make it look more like 7 (start 8). I then started getting used to it and eventually got to like it. On top of this I read lots of comments about how great 8.1 is over 8 and how games are supposedly faster than in 7 oh and the classic Windows 7 will no longer be supported! Which kind of confirmed I made the right decision to upgrade.

Truth is now I've gone back to 7 it doesn't feel any slower in general use or games than 8.1 or even 10. I also like the proper 7 start menu better than the workarounds for 8.1 and it's nice to know that there's not some awful tablet interface hiding somewhere and taking up space!

Only thing I miss about 8.1/10 is the Graph when copying stuff! I'm sticking with 7 until 10's released and providing it comes out at a bargain price like 7 and 8 did I'll pick it up straight away. If not I'll buy it when it gets its first major update/service pack
