Preparing to order my first build, this is what I have planned so far, can anyone see any problems with it:

Samsung 226bw 22” monitor
Razer Deathadder mouse
Logitec Keyboard
Antec 900 case with 2 extra Antec fans
Gigabyte DS3 revision 3.3 motherboard
Intel E6600 processor after the price drop
Thermalright ultra 120 cooler with Scythe S-FLEX 120mm Fan (1600 RPM, SFF21F)
Silverstone OP650 psu
2Gb Patriot DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz CL4 Extreme Performance 4-4-4-12 RAM
NEC AD7170S Serial ATA 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Re-Writer (Black) – OEM
Asus WL-138g V2 54G Wireless PCI Adaptor
Leadtek WinFast DTV2000H Hybrid Dual TV Tuner for Analogue and Digital TV
250Gb Western Digital WD2500KS Cavia SE16, SATA300,7200 rpm,16MB Cache,8.9ms hard drive
ATI R600 2900XTX if readily available by around May 15th
Windows vista 64bit

Since I only have a laptop at the moment I really don’t want to buy XP with this new computer only to have to buy vista a couple of months later when all the driver issues are sorted, this is why I want a ATI card as the nvidia ones seem to be having driver issues in vista.

you will only need one fan. you would better off with it being a clear fan maye with a blue light? as its for the case window... there is a bracket to add another one but you are limited to 2hdd's and 1 gpu if your gonna use it

Thanks for the advice Paul, I will only get a fan for the side window.

I noticed in your sig you have the antec 900 case, how are you finding it? Is cable managment as bigger problem as some people are making out? Is it quiet with the stock fans?

hey dan I wouldnt get the E6600 just yet.

Price cuts are coming and the price of that chip is going to plummet. One of the reasons people buy this chip is for the 4mb cache. The new lineup that is coming out has the same cache @ a much lower price.

I would wait.

just my pennys worth

ill be honest its not the easiest case to cable manage.. but there is a lot of ducts ect to manage cables.. if you get some longer sata cables you can turn the drives around... the inbuilt fans are good as you can control them (although i have them on full al the time) the case isnt huge by any means but it is a lot cooler than most sceptics say it is..... if you dont intend on watercooling its a top case

as for the 2 fans if you only have 2hhd's you can put the extra fan in there to blow some extra air towards the cpu... but my 5hhd's stop me lol

as for waiting for the e6600.. i think the price drop will be less than £20..

people always say wait for this and wait for that... if i was doing the waiting for this and that id be waiting forever..

I am hopeing to buy this PC around the second/third week of May so I'm hopeing by that time the processors have dropped to the prices that have been floating around on the forums for a bit as it is a fair while after the 22nd of April which they are scheduled to drop.

Also that the R600 is out and available to buy by then, preferably the XTX not just the XT.

This will be my first attempt at overclocking so I chose the E6600 as it should hopefully be the easiest to overclock to a high level, there doesnt seem to be much price difference in the E6600 and the lower ones in the new price estimates so I will probably end up going for the E6600. I will be aiming for 3.5 or 3.6 from the processor, will this be atainable with the kit I have chosen?

yeah and then some... i can get 3.8 easy on air although tems are too high for 4ghz... i use 3.7 24/7

Very true. I want to wait for the r600 though so hopefully the processors drop in price by that time, if they dont it isnt the biggest loss and I can just get one of the new lower ones with the 4mb cache like sugested above which should hopefully be cheaper.

IIRC the price drops are supposed to be up to 40%. Can't remember where I got the figures from but it was estimated at about £130 inc VAT whereas now it is about £180.
